Don't believe the hype.

There are so many myths out their about our hair that today I found it hard to decide what topic to tackle in this post. Sulfate free shampoo? Deep Conditioning? Trimming ends? Flat irons?

A clean, healthy scalp is a great place to start, so I'll discuss shampooing.

A myth has been going around the black community for YEARS that we should not wash our hair more than about once a month. This myth is based off of a valid point. "Knappy" hair ( Hair is knappy if it needs to be hot combed or relaxed to be manageable..) is naturally dry, so using certain shampoos frequently will give you more trouble than you want. Frizzy, un-believably dry hair.

The products you choose will make the difference in your hair. Plainly speaking, that shampoo and conditioner set from the dollar store, has got to go.

Shampoo should ALWAYS be sulfate free. Sulfates are harsh cleansers that strip the sh!t out of knappy hair. Say it with me "Sulfates are the devil".

I'm wearing micro rings at the moment, but this does not stop me from washing and conditioning EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Even if you are wearing braids or any type of fake hair, there's no excuse for neglecting your hair.

Which sulfate free shampoo to use and how often to use it is absolutely a trial and error type of situation. I use Dr. Bonners soap and Creme of Nature Moisturizing Shampoo.

Thanks for reading, and good luck with finding a shampoo that leaves your hair feeling silky and smooth!

about to go wash my hair!
